Contact Us | About the Downeast Spiritual Life Conference

Founded in 2012, the Downeast Spiritual Life Conference grew out of a widespread hunger for conversation about our spiritual lives and on the belief that to thrive in today’s challenging times, it is more important than ever that we have a spiritual life that inspires and endows us with a sense of meaning and purpose.

Those who attend our events may be followers of a particular religious tradition, seekers of inspiration wherever it lies, or simply interested in how others approach their spiritual lives. Our conferences offer the opportunity to gain spiritual insights and understanding, which, in turn, enriches lives.

To date, the conference has brought a variety of inspirational spiritual leaders to Downeast Maine. These include among others: The Rev. Richard Rohr, founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Phyllis Tickle, founding editor of the Religion Department of Publishers Weekly; Andrew Harvey, architect and founder of The Institute for Sacred Activism™; the Rev. John Philip Newell, poet, Celtic scholar and former Warden of the Iona Community in Scotland, and the Rev. Kate Braestrup, law enforcement chaplain, and the author of Here If You Need Me.

The annual conference is the signature event of the Spiritual Life and Learning Center of St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church in Blue Hill, Maine.
