Getting to Schoodic

Visit the National Park Service/Acadia website for specific information about visiting and staying on the Schoodic Peninsula. (Click on the image below to see this interactive map in Google Maps.)

From the North: Take US Route 1 to Gouldsboro. Turn on Maine Route 186 at the (brown) Acadia National Park / Schoodic Section entrance sign. Follow 186 to Winter Harbor and turn left at the main entrance of the Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park. You are now on the Park Road, a six-mile, one-way loop that takes you to Schoodic Point, at the tip of the Peninsula. Keep to the right where the road splits and look for entrance signs to the campus on the right before you reach Schoodic Point.

In the summer the Schoodic Ferry travels between Bar Harbor and Winter Harbor, and the Islander Explorer bus provides transportation from the ferry terminal to the Schoodic section of the park, as well as Prospect Harbor and Winter Harbor.

To navigate using a GPS, the physical address of the Schoodic Institute is 9 Atterbury Circle, Winter Harbor.

 

Where is Schoodic?

The Schoodic Institute is on Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park, Winter Harbor. Do not make the mistake of going into the Acadia portion on Mt. Desert (Bar Harbor).

Walking & Parking
The Schoodic Institute’s campus is  highly walkable. Paved paths through the woods connect the buildings, or if you prefer, you may drive to the various locations. There is ample parking near each facility. Note: The speed limit on campus is 15 mph.
